To say that Auron's life and story is complicated would be a huge understatement. A devoted warrior from a young age, Auron became involved with Braska (Yuna's father) and his pilgrimage to destroy Sin. Taking Tidus' father Jecht along for the ride, the three of them set out on an epic journey to save Spira's people. Of course, things don't quite go according to plan. Jecht sacrifices himself to become the final Aeon and Sin is only temporarily defeated. Angered by the loss of both his friends, Auron confronts Yunalesca (who revealed the final Aeon) who then strikes him down. Completely defeated, Auron persists magically through death to fulfill Jecht's final wish and watch over his son. Forced to go through the same pilgrimage again with his friend's child and companions, Auron stands by them as a mighty guardian, mentor, and true friend.
Citan Uzuki is one of the most complex and compelling JRPG characters out there. He is a doctor, a spy, a military technologist, a deftly skilled martial artist, a strong moralist determined never to break a promise, and knows a lot more about what's going on than he lets on. However, his most important role is that of Fei's mentor and guardian. Citan's duty is to watch over Fei to see if he will bring relief or destruction to the world. Considering that Fei harbors multiple personalities and his freak-outs can be deadly, a truly calm and patient mentor is needed. Citan remains unflappable when pushing Fei's most volatile personality (Id) for answers and when letting go of Fei's reins to have him figure things out on his own (and make mistakes in the process). He is often by Fei's side in dire situations, being someone who is constant in an ever-changing reality. Citan also exemplifies the credo that a mentor never stops learning, because through playing both sides of the coin he himself not only discovers the role he needs to take, but the role he desires to take as well. For not only guiding an unstable protagonist but learning to guide himself as well, Citan is a mentor who knows that learning never stops.
