I must admit, I never saw... oh, you know.

After teasing it last March, Atlus has officially unveiled Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced edition of Persona 5 (think Persona 4 Golden) coming to PlayStation 4 in 2020. The game was officialy unveiled at the Persona Super Live 2019 concert, and brings a whole bunch of new elements to the critically acclaimed RPG: including a whole new third semester.

But first, a trailer, and a sexy new piece of key art:

As mentioned above, Persona 5 Royal will include a new third semester, expanding on the story of Persona 5 and featuring two new characters: the mysterious beauty Kasumi Yoshizawa, and part-time school counselor Takuto Maruki.

Let's start with Kasumi, who has been the centerpoint of Persona 5 Royal's marketing. She is described as a beautiful girl who transfers to Shujin Academy the same spring as the protagonist. She likes the protagonist, but doesn't agree with the Phantom Thieves' methods: whether or not she will be a friend or foe is open to interpretation. She's also an award-winning gymnast. Her design looks like a mix of Joker's and Makoto's, which is... interesting, to say the least.

Meanwhile, Takuto is a counselor who started working at Shujin following a certain incident in April. He's a good listener and seems fond of the students, and is popular among them. He appears to be a new Confidant.

Anyways, there are more new elements in play: like this guy, who seems to be a human form for Morgana (getting Teddie flashbacks, anyone?), although this has yet to be confirmed:

There will be a new area to explore in Tokyo, Kichijoji, which includes a shopping district. There are other new areas to explore as well, like an aquarium you can go on dates at. You'll also be able to take the Twins from the Velvet Room out on adventures, which will no doubt lead to shenanigans. If you're not sure of what to do, the new "Daily Assist Command" will offer suggestions on how you could be spending your free time.

It's not just the student life that has changed, however. Persona 5's dungeons are getting new enemies and mechanics to spice things up for seasoned players. This includes a powerful "Kyouma" enemy, as well as new events in the Velvet Room and in Mementos.

Of course, Persona 5 Royal will feature new musical tracks from Shoji Meguro and Lyn. All in all, Persona 5 Royal is looking to be an exceptional package: PlayStation 4 owners will get a chance to team up with the Phantom Thieves again in 2020.
