First Story and Character Details for Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final
Needless to say, there will be spoilers for SMTIV. 10.11.15 - 12:52 AM Atlus recently announced Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final, a full length follow-up to 2013's Shin Megami Tensei IV. This week's issue of Famitsu has the first details on the new game, including some initial information regarding its characters. Set in the same world as Shin Megami Tensei IV, Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final takes place in the year 203X, 25 years after the end of the gods war. The sky has been covered with thick bedrock and, despite surviving the war, Tokyo has descended into chaos as angels and demons dominate mankind, who are fighting over diminishing resources. The protagonist, an apprentice for the Outlaw Hunters organization, is killed on a mission, and meets the Mysterious Demon known as Daguza in the afterlife. Daguza resurrects the protagonist as a "god-killer" with the Demon Summoning ability in order to combat the "Association of Gods," who have descended on Tokyo with the intend of forcing mankind to relinquish their souls. Other new characters include Asahi, the protagonist's childhood friend who is also an Outlaw Hunter. There's also Navarre, the same Navarre from Shin Megami Tensei IV, who is unable to rest in peace due to the mundanity of how he lost his life. And yes, he's the little green guy from the concept art. These party members will level up and gain new abilities as the game goes on, with Asahi specializing in healing and Navarre specializing in attack and support magic. Producer Kazuyuki Yamai says that "We’ve looked over a lot of player feedback from Shin Megami Tensei IV and we’re making improvements everywhere we can, even to thinks [sic] like controls and demon conversations—there is a lot of reconsideration and reforming going on. We’re aiming to make the number one RPG for 3DS, so we’re paying attention to every detail. We’re making it so that even those who didn’t play Shin Megami Tensei IV can enjoy this game." Shin Megami Tensei IV: Final is currently 90% complete and due out in Japan on Frebruary 10th, 2016 for the Nintendo 3DS. Here's hoping for a localization announcement soon!
