Coming This Week, 4/8/19
A merry week for pointing, clicking, and dungeon crawling. 04.08.19 - 2:12 PM The point-and-click adventure game is one of the most resilient game genres around, having gone through a sort of resurgence of late. With interest in this format on the rise, publishers seem to be more willing to take a chance on these games and bring them to a wider audience. So it is with this week's new releases, a motley assortment of titles involving lively courtrooms, deserted islands, haunted castles, and more. Let's dive into it. Zanki Zero: Last Beginning - April 9th (PS4, Windows) It's finally here, folks! Zanki Zero has piqued the interest of many an RPG fan, as it's a new game from the creators of the excellent Danganronpa series. This time around, however, the game is a first-person dungeon crawler where players will explore a myriad of post-apocalyptic locales from the perspective of eight survivors. Billed as a "new kind of survival game," you need to scavenge for resources and monitor the health of your comrades if you are to succeed. The game will hit PS4 and PC on Tuesday. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Trilogy - April 9th (PS4, XB1, Switch, Windows) Order in the court! The excellent Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney games are going to be arriving on modern consoles this Tuesday. The Ace Attorney Trilogy collection comes with Phoenix's first three adventures (consisting of Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Justice For All, and Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Trials and Tribulations), with a fresh coat of high-definition paint. These games are looking better than ever, and we certainly won't object to that. Corpse Party: Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash - April 10th (Windows) Teehee, murder! ahem When you think of Corpse Party, visions of low-resolution survival horror may spring to mind. However, Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash, a never before localized entry in the franchise, is different. This time, the trappings are decidedly more comedic (although still quite gruesome) as the sinister Sachiko grants her victims a 24-hour grace period so they can be guests at her birthday party. As you can well imagine, shenanigans ensue from there. If niche Japanese oddities from XSEED Games are your bag, be sure to pay Heavenly Host Elementary a visit this Wednesday. And while you're at it, be sure to check out our recent Corpse Party music review offerings, Scorpion and Tarantula, while you're at it. Shadowgate - April 11th (PS4, XB1, Switch) When it comes to opaque, tough-as-nails dungeon crawlers, the original Shadowgate definitely springs to mind as one of the genre's high points. That iconic game received a 3D remake back in 2014, which, over four years down the road, is arriving on modern consoles. Players will be able to delve into the dark depths of Shadowgate on their PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or Nintendo Switch this Thursday. Torches sadly not included. Silence - April 11th (Switch) A follow-up to their hit adventure game The Whispered World, Daedalic Entertainment is bringing Silence to the Nintendo Switch. In this charming and gorgeous title, players take control of Noah, who is looking for his sister in the world between life and death, known as Silence. The siblings find that this realm has its own problems, and undertake several adventures while there. If you'd like to know more, be sure to check out our review of the original game. Pathway - April 11th (Windows, MacOS, Linux) Finally, we have Pathway, a strategy game from developer And there you have it! There are a lot of interesting titles out this week, some of which I hadn't heard of until sitting down to write this article; hopefully, you'll find something you like as well. As usual, keep an eye on RPGFan for all of your RPG gaming needs.
