Square Enix will be dropping a new update for Dragon Quest Builders 2 in Japan on January 31st (tomorrow, as of this writing!). This latest update offers a variety of bug fixes and other improvements, including the addition of the all-new "Cultivation Island." This island can be any type of terrain the player chooses and opens up after the main story is complete.

Cultivation Island is a place where the player can build freely, using everything available to them in-game. The environment can be based on whatever Material Islands the player has unlocked, and will have a random shape. The player can also start a new Cultivation Island whenever they so choose, although they will have to give up their preexisting one. Further updates for Cultivation Island are on the way, as well, including the addition of multiplayer.

Other additions coming to Dragon Quest Builders 2 include Erdrick's Talisman. On reclaimed land where the Talisman is placed, no enemies will appear: the effect can be spread across all of Vacant Island if placed somewhere other than reclaimed land. Island inhabitants also have new conversation options and other personality enhancements. There's also a "Clear" option that allows the player to clear weather effects and other obstructions out of their photographs.
