In a surprising turn of events, developer Bungie has announced that they have split up with Activision, the publisher of their ambitious shooter/RPG hybrid Destiny. With this departure, Bungie has become the sole owner of the Destiny IP, giving them full creative control over the property: something that, given the tumultuous history of the first game, has been a long time coming.

Destiny Developer Bungie Has Left Activision

After thanking Activision for their eight-year long partnership, Bungie stated that the publisher would be transferring the publishing rights for Destiny to them. "With our remarkable Destiny community, we are ready to publish on our own, while Activision will increase their focus on owned IP projects."

Bungie recently began work on a new project, after receiving a sizable investment from NetEase. With that and the freedom to work on Destiny without the constraints of Activision's annualized released schedule, the future seems bright for the former Halo developers.
