Coming This Week, 12/3/18
Lose yourself to dance! 12.03.18 - 8:07 PM It's time to reunite with old friends and take to the dance floor. I'm speaking, of course, of the Persona 3 and 5 rhythm game spinoffs that are dropping this week. But while Atlus may have the spotlight, there are a lot of releases of interest to RPG fans right now. We've got card games, rhythm games, retro games, and even something truly... smashing. Let's get started. PlayStation Classic - December 3rd Out today is Sony's attempt to cash in on the success Nintendo has seen with the NES and SNES Classic mini-consoles. With a collection of twenty favorite PlayStation titles, there's some value on hand with the PlayStation Classic. Of particular interest to us, however, is the inclusion of Final Fantasy VII and Wild Arms, two fantastic RPGs. Revelations: Persona is also in the lineup, allowing players to explore the roots of the popular series. Atelier Arland Deluxe Pack - December 4th (PS4, Switch, PC) The Atelier Arland games brought the item synthesis-filled shenanigans of the Atelier franchise to HD consoles, and now Koei Tecmo and Gust are bringing the DX editions of the first three games (Rorona, Totori, and Meruru) to modern systems. You'll be able to pick up the Atelier Arland Deluxe Pack digitally on PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC this Tuesday. Gwent: The Witcher Card Game - December 4th (PS4, XB1) Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales - December 4th (PS4, XB1) Gwent was a surprisingly well-thought-out component of The Witcher 3, so much so that it got a standalone release. This week, Gwent: The Witcher Card Game finally hits consoles, coinciding with the console release of Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. That's a lot of medieval card game action! Persona 3: Dancing in Moonlight & Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight - December 4th (PS4, PS Vita) Following in the footsteps of Persona 4, it's time for the casts of Persona 3 and 5 to hit up the dance floor. Both games release for PS4 and Vita on December 4th, bringing with them a wide selection of arranged music from their respective games. You can even pick up a deluxe bundle with both games if you're so inclined. The Last Remnant Remastered - December 6th (PS4) The Last Remnant was one of the more... interesting Square Enix games of the last generation. Following a rocky start on Xbox 360, a more polished PC port, and then the pulling of said PC port from online storefronts, we now have The Last Remnant Remastered with a shiny new engine in tow. I'm quite curious about giving this game another shot! Super Smash Bros. Ultimate - December 7th (Switch) ...look, there are a lot of RPG characters in Smash Bros., ok? With so many representatives from Pokémon, Zelda, Fire Emblem, and even Final Fantasy, we've had some ancillary coverage of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate following its announcement, and we're all incredibly excited for the game. (Editor's note: NESS!) It launches for Nintendo Switch this Friday. Sega Genesis Classics - December 7th (Switch) Last, but not least, the Sega Genesis Classics compilation is hitting Nintendo Switch this Friday, after releasing on other platforms earlier this year. For RPG fans, the inclusion of several games from the Phantasy Star and Shining series in this collection makes it more than worth a look. There's just tremendous value to be had here. And that's a wrap for this week, everyone! As always, stay tuned to RPGFan for the latest and greatest RPG coverage.
