Recently, a mysterious new Pokémon started showing up in Pokémon Go. This is Meltan, the latest Mythical Pokémon that serves as a link between the mobile app and the upcoming Pokémon: Let's Go! games for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo and the Pkémon Company have released some new videos and other details about the enigmatic critter, which you can check out below.

Professor Oak and Professor Willow have been steadily working on their research, propelled by the reports of Ditto transforming into Meltan in Pokémon Go. It looks like they’ve also realized that the Mystery Box is somehow tied to the appearance of Meltan!

New Special Research quests will be coming to Pokémon Go that will let you embark on a search for the Mythical Pokémon Meltan. Look forward to this new Special Research this winter, when you can participate in various investigations with Professor Willow and catch Meltan!

Recently discovered video evidence of Meltan shows the Mythical Pokémon to be surprisingly expressive. Meltan loves metal objects and will slowly inch its way toward any that it finds. It’s also very curious about its surroundings and seems to enjoy doing whatever it pleases!

As you can see in the videos above, the secret to catching Meltan lies in the Mystery Box, a new item that will be received when a player transfers one of their Pokémon from Pokémon Go to Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! or Let's Go, Eevee! for the first time. Players can only have one Mystery Box at a time: once it's been used once, it will close for a set amount of time, and can be re-opened later on by transferring another Pokémon. Once the player opens the box, Meltan will start to appear in their Pokémon Go game, and the player will be able to catch them. Players can then transfer the Meltan they caught to the Let's Go! games, or receive one from a friend.
