Henry Cavill to Star in Netflix Adaptation of The Witcher

It looks like Superman himself is stepping into the shoes of everybody's favorite monster hunter for hire, Geralt of Rivia. Netflix has announced that Henry Cavill (Man of Steel, Mission Impossible: Fallout) will be taking on the lead role in their upcoming series based on Andrzej Sapkowski's "The Witcher" novels (which have also been adapted into a popular series of RPGs by CD Projekt Red). The series will run for eight episodes and is being produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich (Executive Producer and showrunner) and Alik Sakharov (also an Executive Producer), with Sakharov, Alex Garcia Lopez, and Charlotte Brändström stepping in to direct portions of the show.

Based on the best-selling fantasy series, "The Witcher" follows Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a solitary monster hunter, as he struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts. But when destiny hurtles him toward a powerful sorceress, and a young princess with a dangerous secret, the three must learn to navigate the increasingly volatile Continent together.

There is no word yet on whether or not Geralt will reload his fists in the Netflix series.
