Week in Review, 8/12/18
A smorgasbord of scintillating content. 08.12.18 - 1:49 PM We here at RPGFan are big proponents of "the backlog." You know, that ever-expanding pile of games on your shelf that you'll totally play at some point, absolutely... eventually. For instance, I'm just now catching up on Ni no Kuni 2: Revenant Kingdom, while Xenoblade Chronicles 2 languishes on my bookcase, begging to be played. Your turn will come... sometime. Alas, it is the solemn duty of the RPGFan news staff to bring you up to speed on upcoming releases, so you can know exactly when your wallet will be demolished and your shelf increasingly burdened. This week was no exception: with news from Gino DiGioia, Keegan Lee, John Alas, and Tyler Trosper, there's a lot to look forward to on the horizon. We also have a music review from Adam Luhrs, and a review from none other than Rob Steinman (yes, that one!). So let's get into this latest edition of Week in Review so we know what video games we can look forward to playing... at some point in the future. Story by Gino DiGioia You know what people love? Persona. But do you know what people really love? Persona 3 Portable's female main character. Yes, the FeMC is making a comeback in Persona Q2, and she'll be a central focus in the story which also heavily involves Persona 5's Phantom Thieves exploring a demented world of movies. Read Gino's report for more info, as well as a look at the game's sick box art. Story by Keegan Lee Octopath Traveler has been blowing up in sales on the Nintendo Switch, but one can't help but wonder: what of the Bravely series? Bravely Default and Bravely Second found great success on the 3DS, but there's so much potential to be had with a new game. Well, Square Enix is teasing something Bravely related, if a mysterious piece of artwork is anything to go by. Check out Keegan's story for more details. Story by John Alas This fall is absolutely packed with RPG releases, and now you can add another game to the list: the Nintendo Switch version of DS cult classic The World Ends With You. With a revamped control scheme and new content, Final Remix certainly looks promising, but will you be able to fit it into your busy gaming schedule? After reading John's article, you might just want to. Story by Tyler Trosper Speaking of fall releases... Valkyria Chronicles 4 has a demo now! This one is also dropping then, and it looks like a great time for fans of this particular strategy RPG franchise. So if you haven't already, give the demo a shot and read Tyler's article for more information. Story by Gino DiGioa As Gino so eloquently put it, we don't cover Super Smash Bros. at RPGFan... unless given an excuse to do so by the sheer number of RPG characters present in the game. We bent the rules once back at E3 2018, and now we're doing it again, because gosh darn it, we're just all so excited for this game. It looks incredible, and Gino has a very thorough look at the latest Direct announcements for your reading pleasure. Review by Adam Luhrs Joe Hisaishi is a name that needs no introduction: he's composed the music for so many classic Studio Ghibli films. But he's also a known entity in the video game world, thanks to his work on Level-5's Ni no Kuni series. For more in-depth thoughts on Ni no Kuni II's official soundtrack, check out Adam's review. Review by Robert Steinman The Yakuza series has had a new lease on life in the West lately, and now PC gamers can get in on the action with Yakuza 0's PC port. The only catch is... well, how is the port quality? To answer this question, we could only turn to one man... Rob Steinman himself. Check out his review to learn more! And that's a wrap. Next time on Dragon Ball... er, RPGFan, Week in Review takes on its final (?) form...
