Square Enix Asks Fans to "Wait a Little Longer" for Star Ocean 6
Another venture into the ocean of stars may be a long time coming. 05.21.18 - 9:16 PM At the end of Star Ocean Fes 2018, Square Enix producer Shuichi Kobayashi addressed the elephant in the room: there was no mention of a sixth mainline Star Ocean game at the event. In his statement, Kobayashi passionately asks fans to wait a little longer for news of a new title. "I understand, I know what else everyone would like to hear, but speaking frankly, it's not that simple to make." Kobayashi went on to say that, if Square could make a Star Ocean game without the involvement of developer tri-Ace, then "surely it would be possible," but it seems as though they will not be going ahead without tri-Ace. In conclusion, Kobayashi asked fans to continue supporting the mobile title Star Ocean: Anamnesis in order to motivate the team. I've always been fascinated by the premise of Star Ocean (a space-opera JRPG franchise sounds incredible on paper), but after the poor reception of the last couple of entries, it's not terribly surprising to see hesitancy on Square Enix's part. Still, hopefully they'll throw fans a bone in the near future (we never got that Star Ocean 2 HD port in the West, now, did we?). We'll keep you posted on any developments regarding the future of the Star Ocean series. In the meantime, you can catch up on Robert Fenner's review of the recent fifth entry, Star Ocean: Integrity and Faithlessness.
