Pokémon GO To Receive Research Quests, Storylines, and Mew in New Update
Some much-needed context for all of your Pokémon training. 03.29.18 - 10:28 PM One of the main joys of the Pokémon series is, oftentimes, the sense of adventure as players explore a region, interacting with NPCs and learning about local Legendary Pokémon. Niantic's popular mobile AR game Pokémon GO, on the other hand, has largely stuck to the bread-and-butter concept of catching and raising Pokémon, with only the slightest pretense of story and characters with Professor Willow and the three Teams. All of that may be about to change, however, as Niantic is adding storylines and new legendary Pokémon — including the fabled Mew! — as rewards for completing quests in the game's latest update. By performing various "research" tasks — which go live March 30th — players will be able to obtain various in-game rewards. Developer Niantic has an official summary you can read below. Trainers will begin receiving research tasks later this week, adding new activities and challenges that can be completed for in-game rewards. Some of these rewards will lead Trainers to access unique storylines that include discovering the mystery behind the Mythical Pokémon Mew. Pokémon GO's new research feature will provide Trainers with unique activities called Field Research and Special Research. Field Research tasks can be collected by spinning nearby PokéStops, and they include a wide range of Pokémon-related activities. Special Research tasks are story-driven activities that may be requested by Professor Willow himself, and they will unfold as the Trainer completes more objectives. So, there you have it. Pokémon GO has maintained a dedicated playerbase, even if its time in the cultural spotlight has long since passed, so hopefully these new updates are able to please those hardcore fans and bring on new players, as well.
