Square Enix Opens Luminous Studios, Led by Hajime Tabata
Tabata-san's next project may have gotten a major boost. 03.29.18 - 10:18 PM Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata has been working on... something in between Gordon Freeman-themed costume DLC, Whatever this mystery project is, it seems to have received a significant boost, as Square Enix has announced the opening of Luminous Studios, a new development studio headed by Tabata-san. According to their official website, Luminous Studios' purpose is "developing new AAA titles and bringing innovative game and other entertainment content to a global audience," using "innovative technology and creativity." They are currently looking to hire new talent, and more about their in-development projects will be revealed at a later date. Whether you love or hate his body of work (I enjoyed Final Fantasy XV, thought Type-0 and Crisis Core were "pretty alright," and despise 3rd Birthday with the searing heat of a thousand Aya Brea character assassinations), RPG fans should keep a close eye on Tabata's new studio: after all, Square Enix's AAA productions on the Japanese side of things are few and far between, these days. Stay tuned to RPGFan as we learn more.
