Cloud Strife Has Been Redesigned for Final Fantasy VII Remake
Plus, his personality will be more in line with the original incarnation. 02.07.18 - 10:16 PM Square Enix has been quiet when it comes to the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII remake, other than the occasional reassurance that it does, indeed, exist. However, the recent Final Fantasy 30th anniversary event in Roppongi Hills, "Farewell Stories," offered a glimpse of some brand-new screenshots to attendees, along with a surprise appearance by Tetsuya Nomura. Unfortunately, these screenshots have not been made available to the public, nor will they for some time... but there are still some tidbits of information to be gleaned from the event. According to Nomura, Cloud's design has been modified to better suit his original 1997 appearance. In addition, the characters personality will be more in line with his PS1 incarnation, as well. This new design received Nomura's blessing, and although it was difficult for the development team to implement, Nomura believes that it is the closest they have ever come to capturing Cloud's original design ethos. On Cloud's more "natural" design and personality, Nomura stated that "while Cloud may look this way, he was a dork. I believe those of you who played the original will understand what I mean by saying he's a dorky character." Supplemental material such as Advent Children and other Final Fantasy spin-offs have memetically mutated Final Fantasy VII's leading man into a brooding, "emo" caricature, so this should be exciting news for fans. Square Enix also evidently showed off more of Biggs, Wedge, and Jesse, with attendees describing the AVALANCHE trio as "super handsome," "refreshingly chubby," and "cute," respectively. Stay tuned to RPGFan for further updates on the Final Fantasy VII remake!
