Sony Interactive Entertainment and Atlus have announced that they will be shutting down the online services for Demon's Souls, the game that kicked off From Software's now-flagship Souls franchise, on February 28th next year. Players will have until 17:00 JST on that date to experience World Tendency, view other players' bloodstains, read and write hint messages, and see the phantoms of other players.

Atlus has stated that they have mixed emotions about shutting down the service, as "countless players have enjoyed Demon's Souls and the functionality it introduced to players when such things were rarer." For dedicated players who have stuck with the franchise since its inception, this is no doubt a bitter pill to swallow. You can read Atlus' full statement here.
