In other Dragon Quest XI-related news, Square Enix apparently remade a part of Dragon Quest III using the Unreal Engine. According to series creator Yuji Horii, the development team took a "serious look" at Dragon Quest III when developing Dragon Quest XI, and recreating the starting location of Aliahan using Unreal Engine 4 helped the team fully realize their vision. Horii hopes to share what the team created with the public someday. Another interesting tidbit Square Enix revealed is the reason that Dragon Quest XI doesn't have voice acting. As it turns out, the lack of voice acting is considered a series tradition in Japan: the voice acting added to Dragon Quest VIII in the US, while excellent, is something of an anomaly. Yuji Horii was committed to fine-tuning the game's script and seeing the story through to the end, and including voice acting would have required the developers to finalize the game's script much earlier in the process and commit further resources. As such, it was decided to leave the characters silent. Since the hero is intended as a stand-in for the player, Horii says that further emphasis was placed on the character's body language and expressions to compensate.
