Ys VIII Available for PlayStation Vita July 2016, PS4 in 2017
Why the delay? I'm curious, too. 03.10.16 - 8:38 PM Falcom revealed that the PlayStation Vita version of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana will be out a little earlier than it's console counterpart. While Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo says that the development of each version is occurring alongside one another, the Vita version of the game will be out on July 21st of this year in Japan, whereas the PS4 version has been delayed to 2017. Both versions were originally slated for a Summer 2016 release date, so the reason behind the delay is unclear. Perhaps the good folks at XSEED will be able to throw us a bone in regard to the Vita version? That's not all that's new with Ys VIII, however. The Flash Guard and Flash Step moves from Ys: Memories of Celceta are back, allowing for skilled players who properly time their blocks and dodges to become temporarily invulnerable and slow down enemy movement, respectively. There's also a pair of new characters — Ricotta, a 12-year-old girl armed with a whip-mace, and 24-year-old Hummel who wields a bayonet. Ricotta lived on the Siren Island before Adol washed ashore. She's been waiting for the return of her father, who went out to explore the island, and joins the party to search for him herself. Ricotta is also knows quite a bit about ancient languages due to the number of books washes ashore on the Island. Hummel, on the other hand, is a courier who is stuck on Siren, willing to carry any goods no matter how questionable, and takes pride in his work. It would seem that guns are so rare enough in the Ys universe that Adol has yet to see one. Lastly, there are a few descriptions for items Adol will be able to utilize on his journey. The Grip Glove allows the player to climb ivy, while the Luminescence Stone faintly lights up dark areas. There's also the Gale Wings, which increases the dash speed of the player and allows for a ramming attack. Be sure to keep an eye on RPGFan as we learn more about Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana. |
