While we're still waiting for official word on some of the more recent Dragon Quest releases (there may yet be hope!), series creator Yuji Horii talked a little bit about the future, saying that Dragon Quest XI would not follow in the MMO footsteps of its predecessor, and be an offline game on home consoles.
"We can’t say anything right now, but yes, we’re working on it. One thing is certain: Dragon Quest XI will be an offline game. But we’ll have more information on that front soon,” said Horii in an interview with French fansite FFRing. He also said that "Dragon Quest XI will be a return to the traditional mechanics of Dragon Quest. If we do another action RPG, it will be in the Dragon Quest Heroes series."
Hopefully we here more about the future of the Dragon Quest franchise soon. In the meantime, keep a close eye on RPGFan as we bring you further updates.
