That title is really difficult to type out. Fun facts of life.

Putting aside any worries and fears that may have arisen from the project formerly known as Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem, now titled Genei Ibun Roku #FE (whew), I am actually pretty excited for this game, largely due to having watched the 40 minute Nintendo Treehouse Live segment devoted to it. While it may not quite be what fans were expecting when the project was first announced, Atlus' crossover of the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem properties for Wii U is looking rather promising.

The Nintendo Treehouse staff describe Genei Ibun Roku #FE as a "J-Pop RPG", which seems like a fair assessment. Music plays a heavy role in the game and actually changes the world as you progress. Should the heroine make her debut as an idol, players will hear her songs playing in stores, for example. The attention to detail in relation to the musical aspects seems on point, and it suits the more colorful, energetic atmosphere of the game. Speaking of which, we also get to see some dungeon crawling, which reminds me somewhat of Shin Megami Tensei IV, but with the Fire Emblem "Weapons Triangle" incorporated into combat.

"As you guys know, what's famous about Fire Emblem's combat system is the idea of the weapons pyramid and the relationship to weapons," explains Atlus producer Shinjiro Takada. "And for the games that Atlus makes, generally there's a focus on finding their weaknesses and taking advantage of them. So we thought during the development cycle that these systems go really well together... So for people who pick up this game and play it, I'd really like it for you guys to look forward to seeing what weaknesses you can find and how taking advantage of them will reward you."

You can take a look at the video below. Genei Ibun Roku #FE doesn't have a set release date yet, but seems to be slated for 2016. We'll keep you posted as we learn more about this curious title.
