Square Enix has "Several" E3 Announcements, Plans to Work with Other Devs
Surprise, surprise, we probably won't see Final Fantasy XV this year. 05.31.15 - 2:39 PM E3 is just around the corner, and with Square Enix preparing their first press conference in several years, I'll be curious to see what the company has in store for us. In a financial briefing for the current fiscal year, president Yosuke Matsuda said that several announcements were planned for the show. A few titles, such as Deus Ex, Star Ocean 5, and Dragon Quest Heroes II were mentioned by name, along with undisclosed other "HD Games in the Digital Entertainment segment. "We are planning several releases of major titles in the second half. We expect the competitive environment to be tough, with our competitors announcing big titles in the E3 in June. We believe our titles can fully compete with these big titles, however, as I will explain later, we have been conservative in our forecast for FY2016/3. We are confident about the quality of each title, and will aim at a level far beyond our current forecast," says Matsuda. Surprising nobody, Final Fantasy XV isn't on the docket for a Western release just yet, meaning that we likely won't see the game until March 2016 at the earliest. Square Enix also announced their intentions to collaborate further with other developers. Specific examples of past collaborations such as Dragon Quest Heroes with Koei Tecmo Games were mentioned, and the recent Life is Strange episodic series that was made with Dontnod Entertainment. We'll hopefully see the fruits of these endeavors in the near future.
