Obsidian Discusses Possible Pillars of Eternity Sequel
As the game nears release, its developers talk Kickstarter success and future possibilities. 02.09.15 - 12:05 AM With Pillars of Eternity's release date fast approaching, Obsidian took the time to discuss expansions and a hypothetical sequel to their Kickstarter-funded CRPG throwback. According to Obsidian's CEO Feargus Urquhart, after stating that artwork and testing had begun for potential expansions, a Pillars of Eternity 2 might end up being the company's "next thing." "Probably at the end of this month... the key guys on the team are all going to sit down. They've already come up with a list of what they want to do, kind of new game systems and that kind of stuff. We're going to try and get going on that as soon as we can," says Urquhart. He also raised the possibility of turning to Kickstarter to fund the project, citing the developers of Shadowrun Returns as an example of a successful model for this. It also sounds as though Obsidian is taking the time to ensure that Pillars of Eternity is as polished as can be before release. The staff just finished a required playthrough of the game in order to double check for bugs and other balance issues, and it seems that a number of the final development changes were made based on information from this process. We'll experience the fruits of their labor ourselves come March 26th when Pillars of Eternity launches on PC platforms.
