The co-director for Kingdom Hearts I.5 HD ReMIX and II.5 HD ReMIX, Tai Yasue, had some interesting things to say in regard to the future of the franchise, particularly in regards to whether or not we could potentially see Star Wars or Marvel elements in the upcoming Kingdom Hearts III.

"We have to come up with a world that has a lot of originality. We want variety in our new Kingdom Hearts, so we don't want too many of one sort of world, that would look the same. For each world there has to be some meaning for it, in the plot; in Birth by Sleep, for instance, in the Cinderella scene, the characters learn something specific by relating to Cinderella. Also, gameplay-wise, is that world something that would make gameplay fun? There's a lot I can’t say, but there's so much to consider."

When asked about Star Wars and Marvel in particular, Yasue replied that "Nothing's off-limits, we're considering all of the worlds. There are so many wonderful concepts. We're happy about that, but at the same time it's really tough to choose."

If the prospect of the Avengers and Rebel Alliance battling Heartless wasn't enticing enough, Yasue also mentioned the possibility of I.5 HD ReMIX and II.5 HD ReMIX coming to next gen consoles, such as the PlayStation 4 and possibly Xbox One. He stressed that they couldn't make any announcements at this time, but was hesitant about the idea of bringing the games to both the XB1 and PS4. Obviously, since Kingdom Hearts III is going to be multi-platform, Yasue said that they will be considering "what the players want."

Kingdom Hearts II.5 HD ReMIX is now available in the United States for PlayStation 3. Kingdom Hearts III is in development for the PS4 and XB1.
