La Pucelle US-Bound
10.22.03 - 9:29 PM

Shortly after Disgaea: Hour of Darkness was released stateside and Nippon Ichi Software's upcoming Phantom Brave announced, another Nippon Ichi title makes the news. Released prior to Disgaea, Nippon Ichi's La Pucelle (meaning "The maiden") has just been announced for North American release. Surprisingly, the publisher is not RPG veteran Atlus (who published the other Nippon Ichi games Rhapsody and Disgaea), but Mastiff LLC, a newcomer on the RPG front.

La Pucelle: Tactics takes Nippon Ichi's usual themes of an alternate medieval Europe setting with an occult atmosphere and pet-like characters into a universe similar to the Rhapsody series. The battle view is an isometric 3D view, and the game features, among other things, a fast leveling system which allows a more immediate sense of leveling up. The main character, Prier, is a 16 year old girl who just passed her exorcism exams and is part of a demon hunting squad along with her little brother Culotte (French for "panties"). The game features multiple humorous character names in French, meaning things like "lark", "nipple," or "lobster". How these will be localized in English remains to be seen.

Released in 2002 in Japan, La Pucelle: Hikari no Seijo Densetsu (The Maiden: Legend of the Saint of Light) has received a Gold Award from the magazine Weekly Famitsu with an 8-8-8-9 score. The game has also been localized with success in South Korea - the localization even won an award. The English version should hit retailers' shelves in the spring of 2004.

More information on the game can be found in the game's announcement news update, and you can follow the links below to our La Pucelle media galleries, to which have been added 4 wallpapers.
