Nippon Ichi Presents La Pucelle Nippon Ichi, creators of the Marl Oukoku series, better known as Rhapsody in the West, is working on a new simulation RPG called La Pucelle: Hikari no Seijo Densetsu (The Maiden: Legend of the Maiden of Light). Scheduled to release in the PS2 on January 31st, the game will have a regular edition (6,800 yen) and a limited edition (7,800 yen) coming with a soundtrack CD. The story starts in the small kingdom of Paprika, in which the goddess Poitrine (meaning 'breast' in French) is worshipped. In this kingdom, a legend has been transmitted from generation to generation, a legend about the Maiden of Light and the Prince of Darkness: "When the Prince of Darkness is revived, the Holy Maiden shall appear". The Maiden shall appear and eradicate evil, she will be called "La pucelle". La Pucelle follows the story of two children living in a convent. The characters in the game all have uh, original names, and I feel it is my duty to inform you on the meaning of those names between brackets. Prier ('pray'), the 16 year-old heroine of the game, has been raised in an orphanage as her parents died when she was very small. She entered the Holy defense squad at age 12 and has successfully passed her exam of Devil Exorcism. She fights using her stick "félicitations" ('congratulations'). Prier's young brother Culotte ('panties') is a 12 year old boy who has joined (or has been forced to join?) his sister in the church. Other "interesting" character names include Alouette ('lark'), Croix ('cross'), Princess Eclair ('lightning'), Father Salad, Captain Homard ('lobster'), Mamelon ('nipple'), the Escargot Group and the Chocolat Squad. I now realize all I've been dreaming of all my life was a game with a character named Culotte, I'm sure of it... The game will not only use a battle system very similar to that of Rhapsody, but it looks like La Pucelle will also re-use some of the monster spirtes and graphics from Rhapsody. See for yourself with 22 screen shots, and some character artwork! |
