Yondu's first wild pokémon encounter on Route 2 is with a naughty female Pidgey with the Keen Eye ability, found in a small tuft of grass outside Aquacorde Town. Yondu names her Eclector, which is the name of The Ravagers' spaceship in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. As Yondu steps out into the clearing with Eclector, he spots Serena and Shauna who insist he join their "how to catch a pokémon" lesson. Yondu is clearly not amused by having to waste precious time learning something he just did already.
Once again, Shauna's cluelessness makes itself known. How could this girl not comprehend Pokémon basics, like how pokéballs work? She didn't even realize her Chespin is in one! Eclector glances at a face-palming Yondu in that "May I please plop a bird bomb in this stupid girl's hair?" way. Tempting, but Yondu lets that urge subside in the hopes that Shauna will display some positive quality that made Professor Sycamore include her in his secret little cabal with him, Trevor, Tierno, and Serena.
Yondu doesn't have to wait long, as once he enters Santalune Forest, Shauna insists on tagging along with him. In exchange for letting her tag along, she'll heal Yondu's pokémon whenever he wants. "You've got yourself a deal, girlie," agrees Yondu. The first pokémon Yondu encounters in Santalune Forest is a relaxed female Scatterbug with Shield Dust, whose tuxedo coloring results in the name Tux.
After an eventless jaunt through Santalune Forest, Yondu winds up on Route 3, just outside of Santalune City and the first gym. His first Route 3 encounter is with a serious female Fletchling with Big Pecks, who is named Phoenix Down. With a team of four, Yondu decides to bond with his new companions and level them up a bit before taking on the Santalune Gym. Between Mary Poppins bouncing around, Eclector trying to bird bomb Shauna, Tux napping, and Phoenix Down chirping like a drill sergeant, this will not be an easy go. Encountering a surprisingly powerful Dunsparce with a Rollout that hits like a runaway train does not help this training session either. The best part of this ordeal is a battle in front of the gym against a girl named Rinka who promises Yondu a pair of roller skates if he beats her. Yondu is decidedly victorious and now gleefully glides on a pair of roller skates.
It seems the Santalune Gym is a Bug-type gym. Yondu is pretty confident since several of his pokémon have type advantages. However, the battle against Gym Leader Viola's Surskit and Vivillon proves tougher than expected. Surskit's Bubble hits Eclector hard, and she almost goes down, but judicious strategy squashes the foe. Next up is Vivillon, whose Harden endures several Ember hits from Mary Poppins. Vivillon also uses the move Infestation, which not only hurts Mary Poppins with each turn, but prevents her from being switched out. This is a battle of attrition, but even despite her HP being in the yellow, Mary Poppins emerges triumphant! Yondu obtains the Bug Badge and Tux evolves into a Spewpa with the Shed Skin ability.
Near one of the town's exits, Yondu meets Viola's older sister who bestows unto him an Exp. Share. Yondu smiles as he receives the item, albeit with a glint in his eye knowing full well that it will be summarily turned off.
Although encouraged to travel north to Lumiose City, Yondu takes a detour to the eastern Route 22, where he catches an Azurill. The first male on Yondu's team, our hero can't figure out what to name it, and in a fit of frustrated un-creativity names him Pip Squeak. Pip Squeak is adamant and has the Huge Power ability.
Enough goofing around; it's time to hoof it to Lumiose City. Along the flower filled streets of Route 4, Yondu encounters a naive female Skitty with Cute Charm. She is dubbed Josie after the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon Josie and the Pussycats. Yondu wonders if Josie can learn an adequate number of HMs to aid in exploration.
Outside Lumiose City, Yondu encounters two of Professor Sycamore's lab assistants, Dexio and Sina, who offer to escort him to the lab. "Okay, let's roll," replies Yondu, silently chuckling at his bad pun, since he knows that the grand Lumiose City has a reputation as a skater's haven. Unfortunately, a blackout has rendered several sectors of Lumiose City off limits, so Yondu has no choice but to squelch his desire to explore the city and go directly to Sycamore's lab.
At the lab Yondu and the crew meet Professor Sycamore. Sycamore is actually a pretty charming and handsome guy, so Yondu now completely understands why his mom was so giddy about him. After a lecture and a brief battle, Professor Sycamore offers Yondu one of three pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. These were the original Kanto starters that started this all back in 1996! Unfortunately, as much as Yondu respects the originators and wants to take a Bulbasaur with him and name it Avocado (since it's a fruit that's been around since the time of the dinosaurs), he lets it go free. As he considers it a "gift Pokémon," accepting it would violate Rule 3.
After getting a fresh haircut (style: very short, color: orange) and having a lengthy and boring conversation with Serena in a café that boils down to "Hey Yondu, let's be rivals!" Yondu skates around Lumiose City a bit to take in what he can before heading off to Camphrier Town.
Pokémon Yondu has:

Eclector (Pidgey)
Tux (Spewpa)
Phoenix Down (Fletchling)
Pip Squeak (Azurill)
Josie (Skitty)
[Avocado (Bulbasaur) who was gifted to Yondu, then released]
