A Closer Look at a Definitely-Not-Evil Malroth in Dragon Quest Builders 2
Evil or not, if he wants to help me fight and gather, he's on the team.

Last week, we talked a bit about Dragon Quest Builders 2 and its newly-revealed subtitle in Japan: "The God of Destruction Malroth and the Vacant Island." Given how the first Builders game generally tied in to Dragon Quest I, it's probably safe to assume DQB2 is a builder's perspective on Dragon Quest II, given that it features the original game's villain.

More interesting, however, is today's information, where we see Malroth is a helper in your quests. It seems that this boy knows his name is Malroth, but has no memories of anything else. We already knew Dragon Quest Builders 2 would let NPCs – human and animal – assist you in the field, and Malroth is adept at fighting and collecting materials, even if he can't directly help you build.

Malroth seems like a solid ally, and while I don't want to assume that his amnesia and mysterious past and identical name to a villain may have dire consequences, his blood red eyes and skull-emblazoned belt are the epitome of RPG non-subtlety:

But hey, if things go south, we can just build a fortress to defend ourselves, right? Dragon Quest Builders 2 still lacks a release date, but the steady stream of recent updates makes us hopeful that we'll see it sooner than later. The anxiously-awaited (at least by me, and the friends I will force to play co-op with me) sequel is coming to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
