Tales of Xillia News Roundup
New characters, a look at the shop build system, and more!
07.15.11 - 1:02 AM

If you think you've learned plenty about Tales of Xillia, think again. Namco Bandai still has plenty more to talk about, apparently, as they're still revealing characters and have already talked about some of the planned DLC.

Of all the characters in the game's keyart, two were only revealed this week: The faint character in the far upper left is Shian (Cheyenne?) Rem, voiced by well-known Japanese voice actress Megumi Hayashibara, and is said to have close ties to main character Jude.

On the far upper right of that same keyart is king Gaias of the northern kingdom in Liese Maxia. He was shown in Jump with a sword that was glowing red, but it was unclear if he was playable.

Namco Bandai has started sharing some video clips too, aside from the six minute trailer from last week. The first of such videos is an overview of the game's 'shop build' system. Tales of Xillia has five different types of shops: weapons, armour, food (you can cook just like in previous Tales games), accessories and items. The easiest way to increase your level at certain shops, is of course to buy items. Alternatively, you can choose to build a shop by giving it certain materials; this will also 'level up' the shop.

Leveling up a shop means some prices will be lowered, and new items will appear. You raise the level of each shop by category, so for example if you get discounts and unlock new inventory at one weapon shop, for example, you'll access these same prices and items at any other weapon shop in the game world.

Finally, even though you recently saw the Idolmaster 2 DLC outfits, now you can see them in action.. in screenshots, anyway. The gallery is linked below.

Tales of Xillia for the PS3 releases in Japan on September 8th.
