It was only a matter of time before BioWare announced the sequel to our 2009 RPG of the Year Dragon Age: Origins, and now that time has come. Dragon Age 2 is officially in development and is coming to PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in March 2011. BioWare's newest creation brings with it a slew of changes, from a new visual style and improved graphics to a more dynamic and responsive combat system. However, the biggest change lies not in how you play, but who. The origin stories from the first game have been tossed out in favor of a pre-defined protagonist known as Hawke. Players will be able to customize Hawke's class, gender, and looks, but he (or she) will always be a human. While the diversity of the various origin stories may be missed by some players, the presence of a single Mass Effect-style protagonist should allow for a more cinematic experience. Voice acting, anyone?

Dragon Age 2 follows Hawke's 10 year transformation from penniless refugee of the Blight to "the single most important character in the world of Dragon Age." The new story promises tough moral choices, deadly allies and untold fortunes, as well as a dynamic world shaped by the decisions you make. Those looking for more information should head over to the official Dragon Age 2 website linked below, where a trailer for the game will be revealed on August 17th.
