"It's the same Disgaea 4 you've already seen, but with enough new features that might just make it worth a purchase."

Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited continues the trend of releasing home console Disgaea games on handhelds with new features. I had the opportunity to sit down at E3 and spend some time with early missions and new features included in the port. It's the same Disgaea 4 you've already seen, but with enough new features that might just make it worth a purchase.

Starting up the game, the first thing I noticed were the sharp visuals. The game looked beautiful on the Vita's screen, and the art was stylish and crisp. Sure, it's smaller than when you played it on PS3, but the graphics are outstanding on Vita. Also, it's Disgaea you can take on the go, which is never a bad thing.

Aside from walking around the hub and speaking with various NPCs, the only levels available for play were the tutorial and some early story missions. These are functionally the same as the original Disgaea 4, so veterans won't see any immediate surprises. For those unfamiliar with A Promise Unforgotten, I recommend you take a look at our review here.

As for new features, there are plenty of them. Most importantly is the new "Time Leap" scenario that features an all new character: a mechanic named Nagi Clockwork. Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to see her in action during the demo. Other new playable characters include Sister Artina, plus Disgaea 3's Rutile and Stella, as long as you have a save from Absence of Detention on your Vita. Additionally, all Disgaea 4 DLC will be included in A Promise Revisited from release.

From Disgaea D2, the Cheat Shop returns, where you can allocate points to increase XP or other bonuses by a percentage, as does the Innocent Warehouse. New Rank 40 items have been introduced, an event viewer to re-watch cutscenes is included, the Dark Senate can now be bribed, and a new level of magic called Peta can be executed.

If you haven't played the original, Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited looks like it will be the definitive version. It includes all the original content, plus DLC and a number of new extras. For players who have already played Disgaea 4, the new scenario will likely be an attraction, but other changes are relatively minor. We'll be bringing you a full review closer to release, so make sure to check back!
