For fans of Ys, new information has been revealed for Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, the ninth upcoming installment for the venerable action-RPG franchise. The information, updated and found on the game's official website, introduces new battle modes to the player, named Larva Battles and Grimwald's Night.
Dark miasmas are threaded throughout the city of Balduq, that, when touched, initiate combat scenarios known as Larva Battles.
Within Larva Battles, the screen will become monotone, and Larva will appear for Monstrum to battle against.
Once exterminated, the dark miasma will disappear, filling up a status bar known as the 'Nox Gauge', which is necessary to activate another combat scenario, known as Grimwald's Night.
During the event known as Grimwald's Night, the Monstrum will be shunted to a different dimension, where the sky is stained a deep crimson, and a battle against countless enemies, known as Larva, must unfold.
Monstrum not in your current party will also join the fight against the Larva, as each encounter of Grimwald's Night is a high stakes battle between Monstrum and Larva.
After the battle is won, players will potentially gain access to new areas of exploration within the city of Balduq, for their party of Monstrum to explore.
