Each character will have their own quests.

An epic adventure is about to get even bigger! Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age is set to add a slew of all new features, but the biggest addition comes in the form of character-specific quests! The player will be able to control each party member as they talk to NPCs, find treasure, and take part in battles with new parties!
Square Enix provided an overview of each party member's story. A word of warning: the following information does contain spoilers for the plot of Dragon Quest XI. Tread carefully!
Each character's story takes place during a part in the game where everyone is separated. For example, Sylvando's quest centers around a visit to Gondolia. However, his quest leads him to protect people of the town from meddlesome thieves!
On the other hand, Erik befriends a Healslime named Homirin as they plan to escape a monster's hideout!
Similarly, Jade also finds herself imprisoned, this time in another world by Booga.
Rab's tale almost sounds like Alice in Wonderland. He follows a rabbit into a strange world full of nostalgia.
Hendrik and Jasper also share a story in the halls of Heliodor Castle!
