The Wasteland is about to get more crowded. At Bethesda's E3 conference, the company revealed a massive new update for Fallout 76 titled Wastelanders. The update, which will be free for everyone who owns the game, adds several new features, including NPCs and a battle royale mode.

First up, let's discuss the new faces showing up in the update.

As shown in the E3 trailer above, NPCs are finally making their long-desired arrival to the world of Fallout 76. A year after Vault 76 opened, people have returned to Appalacia to fight over what's left and a rumored treasure. You are given a new quest to that will affect the lives of people from the Crater or Foundation faction settlements. Expect more powerful weapons and armor to aid you along the way.

But if NPCs and new story isn't your thing, maybe the new Nuclear Winter mode will be up your alley! Pitting 52 players against each other, this battle royale mode will determine who will be the Overseer of Vault 51. Along with battling other players and creatures, you will need to protect your C.A.M.P. as you procure weapons, supplies, and even nukes in order to survive. Furthermore, winning also increases you rank, which adds several perks and cosmetic rewards.

The Wastelanders update is expected to release sometime this fall. Players will be able to get a sneak peek of the new Nuclear Winter Mode between June 10th and the 17th. In that same time frame, a free trial of Fallout 76 will be available for new players to test out the game.
