Mike Salbato
Michael A. Cunningham, RPGamer Editor-in-Chief, Passes Away
A legacy of positivity.

We woke up to sad news this morning, learning that RPGamer's Editor-in-Chief Michael A. Cunningham had passed away. Out of respect for him, his family, and friends, I won't get into any personal details, but for those of us at RPGFan that knew him – a little or a lot – we knew he was a wonderful man. He faced life with unbridled optimism, something that came across if you talked to him, read his tweets, or saw any of the work he's done at RPGamer over the years.

There's an impression that RPGFan and RPGamer are rivals, and it's true that we're similar in being fan-run sites that both started around 1998 that cover RPGs. I suppose it's safe to say we're competitors, but friendly competitors. Michael – or Mac as many people, including us, referred to him – was the largest reason we came together and have a good relationship with each other. Beyond simply following each other on Twitter, Mac was one of our main recurring special guests in several Music of the Year podcasts.

So for our part, as a site, we appreciated his presence on our annual celebration, but it was just Mac himself that bridged the "gap" (so to speak) between RPGFan and RPGamer, and it's one of many things we will miss about him.

Please make sure to read RPGamer's post today about Michael. They will also be following up in the near future with a "celebration of his life," so look for that as well.

In closing, I want to encourage our readers/listeners to check out Michael's appearances on our Music of the Year podcasts. Please don't see this as any kind of promotion, as it's not. I just want to share his appearances on Rhythm Encounter so you get a feel for what he brought to these shows, and you'll understand a little more why we miss him.

Thanks for everything, Mac. Rest in peace. Our thoughts are with your family and RPGamer friends as well.
