It's already been a busy news week, and E3 hasn't even begun. Today we had stories for the likes of Dragon Quest, Code Vein, Tales of Vesperia, and more familiar names. And while it's all interesting and worthwhile news, let's talk about something smaller that you likely haven't heard of yet.

Magical Passcode 1111 released today for iOS and Android, and yes, my face was the same as yours: What is it and where did it come from? As for the "what," Magical Passcode is described as a "darkly lighthearted adventure," placing you in the shoes of a magic-wielding boy who was the last survivor of his kind, following a war with mankind. Spellenya, as he's named, teams up with human Nefaria (wonder if she has ulterior motives) to face a new threat.

On paper, it seems like a basic premise we've seen before, but looking at the game itself makes it quickly apparent that there's some real production value here. The JRPG-style magical battles let you bring in a squad of four Magi and are ideal for on-the-go gaming, with some battles taking a few minutes, and some even shorter. The story unfolds in adorable storybook-style dialogue scenes like you can see here, with a colorful cast of characters.

One place that isn't as traditional as you may think is the leveling system, officially called the Love Leveling System, which may sound familiar to fans of some MegaTen or Fire Emblem games: In Magical Passcode 1111, you can grow your relationships with your Magi teammates. Giving them gifts and learning what they do and don't like is key, and there's even the potential for jealousy if you're paying too much attention to some people and not others.

Developed by HEXADRIVE, who was a contributing developer on Final Fantasy XV and The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD, Magical Passcode 1111 has been localized and published by new localization company Hotel Chromatic. This new studio was founded by former members of NISA who worked on titles such as Danganronpa, Atelier Meruru, Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love, and some of the Disgaea series.

Check out the launch trailer below to see if Magical Passcode 1111 is up your alley. The game is free to download, and yes, there are in-app purchases, but they appear at first glance to be entirely optional. You can get the game via the App Store if you're on iOS, or for Android, on Google Play.
