The upcoming Nintendo Switch may receive a mainline Pokémon game later next year. Rumor has it that a new version of Pokémon Sun and Moon code-named Pokémon Stars is in development for Nintendo's upcoming hybrid console/handheld system.

Simultaneous development of the 3DS and Switch verisons reportedly allowed Game Freak to have finalized content for the upcoming title. Work on the Switch version was halted in order to polish the 3DS titles, but will now resume development to include Switch exclusive features.

Pokemon Stars will reportedly feature the same map, routes, cities and art style with the biggest change being higher resolution. It is possible that Stars will be the third version to Sun and Moon marking the first time we'll receive a third version to accompany a core series pair since 2008's Pokémon Platinum (Black and White 2 are another story).

February's reveal teaser seems to have revealed an HD game model of the new Pokémon Pikipek (pictured above). Whether the upcoming game is a port or traditional third version, we can at least expect better graphics.

The Switch version was reportedly planned to release in summer 2017 but has since been pushed back to the fall. Neither Nintendo nor The Pokémon Company have yet to comment on the story, though stay tuned to RPGFan for more updates on the rumored title.
