Square Enix and popular mobile developer Machine Zone revealed that they are working on a massively multiplayer online game that takes place in Final Fantasy XV's world.

The game will include bits of the story, soundtrack, and characters from Final Fantasy XV, coupled with online mechanics from previous Machine Zone games that allow "millions of people around the world to play together in a single universe in real time."

Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda expressed joy and confidence in working with Machine Zone, saying "...we are putting Final Fantasy XV in trustworthy hands." Machine Zone CEO Gabe Leydon expressed his excitement at working on a franchise he's loved since he was a kid.

Machine Zone has proven they're capable of creating popular mobile games as evidenced by titles like Game of War: Fire Age. It'll be interesting to see if their Final Fantasy XV MMO takes off in the same way. Since it's early going, a release date is unknown for now, but we'll keep you updated!
