The Final Fantasy series has long been known for its visual panache, and for the past two decades that style has been defined by the pen of Yusuke Naora. The long time art director recently announced his resignation from Square Enix after 24 years. Naora-san worked on important titles like Final Fantasy VI and Chrono Trigger, but first stepped up to the art director plate with Final Fantasy VII and has worked on a truly staggering number of titles up through Final Fantasy XV.
In a series of tweets, he announced:
On September 30, I resigned from Square Enix after working for them for 24 years. With my family in mind, I'll be going back to my home town of Izumo. Yesterday, Taba-chan (Hajime Tabata) showed me the ending of Final Fantasy XV. It was my final job, and it has the best ending. Everyone has been amazing! We did a great job. I’m a little regretful that the release date was pushed back, but I'm happy to be given credit. After my resignation, I will continue doing illustrations, designs, and the like as jobs for Square Enix, and want to take on various challenges, so I appreciate your support. I'm grateful for all the experiences I was able to have with so many people.
It appears that he is making the right decision for himself, and perhaps this transition will leave room for fresh blood at Square Enix.
