TGS 2016: NieR: Automata Gets Japanese Release Date
It's NieRly here. 09.14.16 - 9:23 PM Square Enix has announced that the highly anticipated action RPG NieR: Automata is due out in Japan on February 23. For those who don't know, NieR: Automata is a collaboration between PlatinumGames and Square Enix. It's a sequel to the cult classic, NieR, taking place hundreds of years after the original when humans have moved to the moon after a machine invasion, and have sent powerful androids to Earth to make the planet machine-free and inhabitable. You play as one of those androids, fighting machines in quick and thrilling ways. PlatinumGames have stepped into the series for the first time to handle the game's gameplay (developing great gameplay is something they excel at), but many of the core members involved with NieR's complex story and characters are still involved with the sequel. With this collaboration, it's fair to expect high quality from both plot and gameplay. To coincide with their release date announcement, Square Enix has released a new trailer, which you can see below! The combat in NieR: Automata looks like frenetic fun. If this game has a story that is on par with the original, this game could easily be one of the best of 2017. Its expected to hit the West sometime in 2017, but a specific date is unknown for now.
