Falcom has had a great last few years. The Legend of Heroes is the home of fantastic stories, to a great degree because of the Trails of Cold Steel sub-series. The western world is still waiting for its second entry, but Japanese audiences have played it years ago, and are anticipating the third.

In an interview with Dengeki, Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo revealed that The Legend of Hereos: Trails of Cold Steel III is in development. He says, "We plan to start going full scale this summer, but we've finished the basic foundation." As for what platforms it will be released for, Kondo says that he's aware that there are a lot of PS Vita Legend of Heroes fans, and is still contemplating whether to release it exclusively for the PS4, or be more inclusive and add a PS Vita version.

When asked what Kondo wants to do next, he said that he wants to tackle a current gen version of the side-scrolling action RPG Sorcerian. He also mentioned that just because Falcom's output has decreased "doesn't mean the challenging spirit of the old days has disappeared". Judging from the quality of Falcom's recent output, I believe it.

The Legends of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III doesn't have a release date yet, but hopefully we'll have something soon. In the meantime, western audiences can play its predecessor, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II when it hits North America and Europe this fall! Check out our preview to get even more excited about The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II's imminent arrival. And keep checking RPGFan for updates about the future of the franchise!
