Pokemon GO Is Helping GameStop Sell More Pokemon Merch

The game is an unprecedented phenomenon and while the media likes to focus on people falling off of cliffs and getting mugged, the game has proved a massive success for Niantic, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo. Aside from the obvious profits those creators are seeing, Pokémon GO is making a ton of money for other businesses and GameStop in particular, is seeing a hefty bump in sales. CEO of GameStop, Paul Raines, said that 462 stores are now designated as Gyms or PokéStops and the increased foot traffic has lead to a "100% increase in sales," of Pokémon merchandise. The potential for partnerships is mind-boggling and I would not be surprised if in the coming months, dozens of people will be flocking to Subway for a $5 foot long with a side of Scyther.
