Monster Hunter Stories Gets Enticing New Trailers
Change is afoot in the Monster Hunter series.

Capcom has released two new trailers showing off their 3DS exclusive, Monster Hunter Stories. In this game, you play as a rider — a character who rides and controls many of the monsters it finds. It seems that not all monsters will be treated like savage beasts this time. That's not the only change, though. Unlike other Monster Hunter games, this one is turn-based. The trailers also show off a more vibrant color palette than typical Monster Hunter entries, which fits its kinder, more family-friendly approach.

The first trailer showcases one of the monsters: the fanged wyvern Zinogre, who looks like a monster you'd definitely like to have on your side. The second trailer is a vibrant and flashy TV commercial.

The Monster Hunter games are hugely popular, making it risky to change a formula that makes boatloads of cash. I'm happy that Capcom is taking a chance, and trying something new with the series — change is important.

Monster Hunter Stories releases in Japan on October 8th for the 3DS.
