First Look at DONTNOD's Vampyr
Hunt? Heal? It's your choice. 03.07.16 - 9:01 PM French developer DONTNOD Entertainment first made a name for itself with the Capcom-published Remember Me, and more recently (and within our coverage at RPGFan), the acclaimed graphic adventure Life is Strange, published by Square Enix. The publisher of their next title will be Focus Home Entertainment, who recently revealed DONTNOD's new title: Vampyr. As you can partially infer from the first screenshots, Vampyr is set in 1918 London. You're placed in control of a doctor-turned-vampyr as the Spanish Flu tears through the city. Vampyr promises a strong narrative, and a changing world based on your choices. As the undead, you need to feed to survive, but killing a character means they're forever gone, which can affect the world around you. And while you can, as a former doctor, craft medicine to instead heal your would-be victims, feeding not only keeps you "living," but can grant you new powers. It sounds like a game filled with tough choices. When feeding or charming your way out of a situation isn't an option, Vampyr will have a melee-centric real time combat system, accented by supernatural abilities. Defeated enemies can drop loot and materials used in crafting a variety of tools, melee weapons, and ammo with a variety of affinities that exploit enemy weaknesses. Again, check out our brand-new gallery, and look for Vampyr on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2017.
