An Iron Maiden RPG Will Be Rocking Your Phone Soon
Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast, hopefully it will be released on vinyl. 01.25.16 - 4:16 PM A mobile RPG experience that I never expected is coming. Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast is in development with Roadhouse Interactive (Warhammer 40k Carnage, SMOSH's Food Battle: The Game), 50cc Games, Iron Maiden's bassist/founding member Steve Harris, and their Phantom Music Management team. Roadhouse CEO James Hursthouse recently discussed the game at Pocket Gamer Connects London 2016, and gave several details about the upcoming project. He even mentioned this platform would be best for updates and special events, even mentioning a "tour that we can integrate with". In a press release for the game, James discusses his heightened interest in his involvement: “As a lifelong fan, I have always thought that Maiden’s music, lyrics and cast of characters would provide the perfect basis for a deep RPG experience. With this game we’re creating an outstanding RPG that will appeal to all mobile gamers, including those discovering Maiden for the first time.” The characters featured in the game will be adapted from the "lore" of the band. That being from the imagery and the music from Iron Maiden. Eddie (our obvious protagonist) will traverse different realms to recover the missing pieces of his soul, which was broken by a mysterious force. In the press conference, some concept art of different classes showed off Eddie in many interesting forms, so we'll see how this affects gameplay. Music from Iron Maiden's extensive library will be be featured in game, but for those of you who know this will probably leave out some iconic tunes. I don't see myself playing a level or world based on "Run To The Hills" or "Montsegur" given their historical inspiration. The press release mentioned the use of previously unheard recordings of Iron Maiden, adapted for the game under the direction of Steve Harris. He even commented on this endeavor: “We know many of our fans are gamers and we have long thought that Eddie and Maiden’s music and imagery would be perfect for this. It’s something we have been looking at revisiting since Ed Hunter way back in 1999. Now in 2016 it can all be done on a smartphone so it makes it even more accessible for Maiden fans everywhere and also all the gamers out there.” I do have my suspicions about the game being F2P. An "epic RPG" featuring a massively iconic characters, from one of the most prolific bands in Heavy Metal music will be free to play? That's when I noticed this graphic on the Iron Maiden: Legacy of the Beast website: Looks like those would fit right in with a puzzle match style game, don't they? Regardless of my concern, I am still excited to see what the developers can create out of the rich history from Iron Maiden. No release date yet, but it's possible that this will come out in proximity to Iron Maiden's "Book of Souls" tour; which runs from February to August of this year. Authenticity and integrity seemed to be the buzzwords of the presentation, so stay tuned for updates on this ambitious project.
