New information coming out of Japan demonstrates how players will be able to tinker with their characters and monsters in Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker 3. Players can change the color of the protagonist's hair, gloves, pants, boots, and even his scarf, and can change their favorite monster's color by mixing it with a "Color Fondue." Moreover, the Monster Fusion system will combine two monsters to create a more powerful hybrid.

Hybrid monsters will have better stats than their "parents" and can inherit their skills that can build into different types of special abilities and magic. Repeatedly fusing lineages of hybrid monsters will allow you to greatly strengthen your party. Further, each time players fuse monsters they can pick which monster will result from one of five options, removing the pesky randomness that can plague these systems. Some outcomes will be the same type as the "parent" monster, while others will be entirely new. Players will need to experiment to find the best combinations.

In addition, the latest issue of Weekly Jump introduces new some key characters, such as the masked villain called the "Dark Master" who controls monsters in opposition to the protagonist. Other characters include the mysterious green haired girl who draws the protagonist into the adventure, the feisty but helpful old crone who seems to know the hero from before his amnesia, and the king of the Nochola tribe of monsters who support the hero.
