In a recent Iwata Asks interview, several members of the Xenoblade Chronicles X development team revealed some key facts related to the game's script. Executive director Tetsuya Takahashi revealed that it took over a year and a half to write the full script. While the main story is shorter than Xenoblade Chronicles, Takahashi said that the added quests and open-world design helped to make the sequel larger in scope when compared to the original.

Scriptwriter Kazuho Hyodo gave further insight into the creation process. "Once the work began, I wrote several quest scenarios. While writing these up, I asked the staff if I could create additional characters, and they responded with, 'Make as many as you want.' I was first a little startled with their response about letting me create new characters, but their passion convinced me that everything would work out fine." Furthermore, writer Yuichiro Takeda revealed that Hyodo was brought on because of his ability to write strong female characters.

Xenoblade Chronicles X is out now in Japan and is scheduled to arrive on American shores some time in 2015. For more info on the story or any other aspect of the game, check out our preview.
