The lead developers of Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness sat down with Dengeki to share some details about the story and how the protagonist Fidel Camus' personality will be central to the plot. Though the game will share the blended sci-fi and fantasy setting with its predecessors, at 23 Fidel is the oldest protagonist in a Star Ocean game yet. Being a bit older, he is more mature and experienced, but still finding his way in the world and has not yet ascended fully into adulthood. His personal growth through the trials of his adventure, particularly by encountering many new people, will be a major theme of the story.
The other main character, Miki, will also be central to Fidel's growth. It is common for Star Ocean games to revolve around pairs of young men and women who share a close bond, and here Miki and Fidel are childhood friends. The developers would not comment on whether the two would develop a romantic relationship, but we should note that in some past games every possible permutation of character pairs had their own specific endings.
