Star Ocean 5's development team recently sat down with Dengeki to discuss their design philosophy and choices regarding platform, DLC, seamless battles, and more. Producer Shuichi Kobayashi and director Hiroshi Ogawa said that one of the main goals was to appeal to long-time fans of the Star Ocean series and create a broad appeal. They chose the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in order to have the broadest reach for those fans. They are also focusing on concepts of "virtuousness" and "return to origins" for the game.

When asked about DLC, they said that the option is on the table for DLC that supplements the story if fans want it, but speculated that their time might be better spent toward their next game rather than churning out content incrementally. As for the gameplay, the they said they are very focused on the seamless flow between events and the field and battle. However they noted that the camera is still a work in progress to smoothly transition to an effective view of the battlefield. Apparently all the screenshots are from real-time gameplay as well.

Star Ocean 5: Integrity and Faithlessness is in development for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. See our previous coverage to learn more about the game's characters and settings.
