Could Mana's 25th Anniversary Mean a New Flagship Title?
Square Enix execs are being coy. 04.17.15 - 5:51 PM In a recent interview with Famitsu, Square Enix producers Masaru Oyamada and Yusuke Suda spoke about the company's plans for the Seiken Densetsu or Mana series as its 25th anniversary comes up next year. Suda, who produced the upcoming Rise of Mana, said that the company plans to reboot the series ahead of the anniversary and Rise of Mana is part of that effort. The company's planning will no doubt rely on the sales figures for that upcoming game. Oyamada also mentioned that a free-to-play model for Rise of Mana could help expand the series' reach to a new generation. He hinted that more information would be on the way soon. In prior interviews Oyamada has also said that he would like to bring the Mana series back to home consoles. The series has not had a numbered, flagship title since Dawn of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 4 in Japan, on the PlayStation 2, so a new release on a home console would be most welcome. We will keep you updated with the latest news as it breaks, but in the mean time we have a trailer for the PS Vita version of Rise of Mana. |
