New media from Compile Heart demonstrates some of the challenges that await your party in Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II. The first is a video that pits the CPUs against the massive and menacing Dark Goddess "Dark Purple." The boss hits hard, killing several party members before Neptune is able to take her out with her signature flair. As you will see, combat is active and requires players to manage positioning as well as their actions.

We also have more details on the Neplunker mini-game, an adaptations of the 80s Atari classic Spelunker. Neplunker will be entirely separate from the main story and involves sending a CPU to explore a treacherous cave. As you descend you must conserve energy while navigating around obstacles and enemies. You are allotted a certain number of lives, and if they run out then it's game over in both Neplunker and the main game, so be sure to save ahead of time. Items scattered throughout the cave will restore energy or lives or double your speed.

Death can find you in a number of ways as you explore, including falling from too high a distance, getting hit by bat poop, touching environmental hazards (like fire or steam), or running out of energy. Unlike the original Spelunker, you can initiate combat with enemies in the cave, but doing so will deplete your precious energy. It is unclear what rewards await the intrepid CPU explorer, or indeed if there will be any reward at all. Stay tuned for more updates.

Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory II comes out on Japanese PlayStation 4 on April 23rd. A Western release has not been announced.
