Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae Footage Shows It's No Cakewalk
...Now I want cake.
03.10.15 - 3:10 PM

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae is a week away, but Japanese news outlets Famitsu and Dengeki were kind enough to share footage of their playthroughs of the demo. In the Famitsu video, the protagonists banter about lacking the funds to repair their vehicle and decide to find the money the old fashioned way, by slaughtering a bunch of creatures who are minding their own business. The blonde haired Prompto notes that behemoth horns sell for a pretty penny, but wonders if the team can take the beast out.

As you can see from the video, Prompto's fears are warranted as the team not only fails to kill Behemoth but also struggles with a herd of wooly herbivores and a cave full of goblins. Whoever is controlling Noctis is obviously still getting a handle on the battle system. Clearly, swinging your sword indiscriminately is not the key to victory. Hopefully with some practice and a few more levels our heroes will be able to get that behemoth horn.

On the other hand, the Dengeki footage demonstrates that battles can run rather smoothly with well-timed attacks and parries and liberal use of of combo attacks with your teammates. In this video we see the group take out a squad of imperial soldiers with relative ease using such techniques. However, even the more skilled player has trouble with the goblins and suffers a game over at the claws of Behemoth. Check it out below.

The videos are not all combat either. They both show off a fair amount of exploration and other systems like using experience points at a camp site. Both videos also tease Chocobo riding, although it is not available in the demo.

Final Fantasy XV: Episode Duscae will be available on March 17th in North America and Europe for those who get first-run copies of Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on PS4 and XB1.
